Consecration of the Assyrian - Chaldean Catholic Church in Tbilisi


Consecration of Mar Shemmon Bar Sabbae Assyrian-Chaldean Catholic Church, which took place on the 17th of October, 2009 in Tbilisi, is the event that without any exaggeration, will be script with golden letters in the chronicle of Assyrians living in Georgia.


The ceremony of the consecration of the church was carried out by His Holiness, Chaldean Patriarch of Babylon Mar Ammanuel III Delly, who arrived to Georgia from Iraq specially on this important for local community and all Church event.


Mar Ammanuel was accompanied to Georgia by His Excellency auxiliary Bishop Mar Shlemun Warduni and two representatives of Iraq Parliament. The ceremony was attended by foreign guests such as priests, representatives of superior clergy, as well as donors and parishioners of Chaldean Churches of Europe, the USA and middle East, namely His Excellence Archbishop of Urmia and Salamas (many Assyrians living in Georgia come from these regions) Mar Toma Meram, priests from Chaldean Diocese of St. Apostle Thomas ( Detroit-USA) Manuel Boji, Noel Gorgis, Sabri Kejby and Iosif Bash, Father Sabri Anar and a nun Lusia Nonah from St. Apostle Thomas parish (Sarcell - France).


Next day, on the 18th of October, during the Divine Liturgy Mar Ammanuel III devoted father Benyamin Beth Yadgar to Chorbishop. The same day 25 children from Tbilisi and Gardabani got the First Communion.


Mar Ammanuel III stayed in Georgia for several days (from 15th to 21st of October).The program of Patriarch was very busy. He had a meeting with the members of Church Council, parishioners and visited Gardabani. He visited Embassy of Iraq by the invitation of the Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Iraq. The meeting with Monsignor Claudio Gugerotti, Apostolic Nuncio to Georgia, was held in Apostolic Nunciature. On the 20th of October His Holiness Catholicos - Patriarch of the whole Georgia, Archbishop of Mtskheta and Tbilisi Ilia II received His Holiness Chaldean Patriarch of Babylon Mar Ammanuel III Delly in Georgian Patriarchy.
