HUMANITARIAN ACTIVITY

As well as humanitarian projects, the church, in accordance with its possibilities, provides medical help to the needy. At the beginning of 90s when there was lack of good quality medicine in Georgia and prices were unaffordable, the Mission received medical supplies as a help from Assyrian -Chaldean Catholic Churches in the USA. The medicine was distributed to patients with the participation of doctors. Part of this medicine was given to polyclinics which existed on the base of humanitarian Fund "Caritas Georgia" as well as poliambulatori of the order of St. Camille In Georgia "Redemptor Hominis".

Nowadays, the privileges of medical care for some levels of society exist. Despite of this fact, people still appeal to us with the request to help in purchasing the medicine (prescribed by doctors) as well as carrying out a medical examination or course of treatment. We try to help people in accordance with our possibilities. As to the cases that require surgeries, the church (after submission of all the relevant documents and decision of Church Council) provides particular sum of money from the total price of operation sending this sum to accounting service of the medical institution. Pensioners and people with limited abilities were given monthly particular financial donation when the state pension was 7 lari. It was the sum which was not enough for buying bread let alone the medicine. Medical help as well as humanitarian help is provided to Assyrians despite their confessional belonging.
