THE ROGATION OF THE NINEVITES
CHURCH FEASTS AND MEMORIAL DAYS / article

"The rogation of the Ninevites" ("Bayta d'ninvae") tells about Prophet Jonah's mission who was sent to the ancient city of Nineveh by God for the conversion of local residents who were mired in sin and fornication.

The Ninevites heard Jonah's sermon, listened to his speeches and for 40 days all the residents of the city, from small to large, kept fast. This tradition is much respected and kept until now in the churches of the East. During "The rogation of the Ninevites" all the parishioners keep very strict fast for 3 days and attend church praying in memory of conversion of Ninevites, who became the symbol of repentance, obedience and modesty for us all.
